In New Haven, Muslims say people ‘misguided’ about them:

NEW HAVEN >> Muslims “have been here since before America was a country,” but many Americans still have a “false identity” of what it means to be a Muslim in America, a leading Muslim religious leader said Saturday.
Part of what drives that are “misguided people who wear the label, ‘Muslim,’” said Imam Talib Shareef, leader of The Nation’s Mosque, also known as Masjid Muhhamad, in Washington, D.C.
Islamophobia is “the biggest challenge right now,” of being Muslim in America, “and also I would say the biggest opportunity,” Shareef said in a community discussion facilitated by New Haven RegisterCommunity Engagement Editor Shahid Abdul-Karim.
The discussion took place in the Connecticut Center for Arts and Technology, 4 Science Park
