Alders OK "Vision 2025" | New Haven Independent:

The city cleared the last hurdle for a new official plan for how it will grow over the next 10 years.
The Board of Alders Thursday unanimously approved the comprehensive plan for development and land use, also known as New Haven Vision 2025.
The plan was approved with an amendment that leaves room for the ongoing development of the Hill-to-Downtown project.
East Rock Alder Jessica Holmes said the amendment clarifies language about that project so that anyone who looks to it for guidance knows that the plan contained the most current information on hand when New Haven Vision 2025 was adopted.
“The adopted iteration here reflects significant work between city staffers and community stakeholders and it lays the groundwork for ongoing dialogue for local stakeholders in the future of this area,” she said.
Westville Alder Adam Marchand, who also represents the board on the City Plan Commission, offered the amendment in a prior committee meeting, where it was adopted into the final version that alders voted on Thursday night.
New Haven Vision 2025 presents a compelling blueprint for how we can move forward in our land use and our development work for the next decade,” Marchand said.
The final draft of the report reflects how, unlike in 2003, when the last plan was prepared, climate change has become an immediate planning concern for cities. It also reflects how New Haven is now growing.
It also reflects how, from the 360 State Street apartment tower and Crown Street’s numerous new apartment complex to Route 34 West, builders have been rushing in to serve a booming rental-housing market. Meanwhile, activists and at times City Hall have cast a wary eye on suburban-style retail development. Click here and here for more details in previous coverage of the plan.
