From Ferguson to Yale: The Movement for Black Lives

(2) From Ferguson to Yale: The Movement for Black Lives: "Join the Yale Dems and Black Student Alliance at Yale for a discussion with DeRay Mckesson, a prominent activist and civil rights leader with We the Protestors. DeRay has been on the front lines of movements from Baltimore to Ferguson, where he was jailed earlier this year while taking part in a peaceful protest commemorating the one-year anniversary of the shooting death of Michael Brown. Through his constant presence both in person and on social media, where his Twitter handle @deray has gained a huge following, DeRay has become a leading voice against structural racism and police brutality nationwide, and has recently met with Democratic presidential candidates Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton to give his input on their racial justice platforms.

We'll be talking with DeRay about his experiences as part of the civil rights movement across the country, as well as his thoughts on the prominence of racial justice in the 2016 presidential election this far. We'll also discuss institutional racism at Yale, including the question of renaming Calhoun College, and then open the floor up to questions from the audience.
