Community conversation in New Haven will focus on systemic racism:

NEW HAVEN >> A forum held by the group People Against Corruption, called “A Community Conversation on Civil Rights Issues: Black Lives DO Matter,” will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul UAME Church, 150 Dwight St. at Chapel Street.
The forum, which is free and open to the public, will focus on systemic racism in education, unemployment and police brutality, among other issues, according to Athena Wagner, an organizer of the event.
“We’ve identified racial profiling here in the state of Connecticut,” Wagner said Monday. Referring to Gov. Dannel Malloy’s “Second Chance Society” programs,Wagner asked, “What exactly does that mean? What impact does that have on minorities being affected?”
A panel discussion will include attorney Rolan Smith, former president of the Greater New Haven branch of the NAACP; Russell Williams of Hartford, candidate for president of the state NAACP conference; Jere Eaton of Stamford, a community organizer focusing on jobs; Angela Carter, web producer for the New Haven Register; Rashanda McCollum of New Haven, an attorney with theConnecticut Coalition for Achievement Now; and Carolyn Nah, former president of the Greater Bridgeport NAACP chapter.
