About - SMALL STATE, BIG DEBATE: RACE:

The Connecticut Mirror, the state’s award-winning, nonprofit public policy news organization, will hold its second statewide public policy event, “Small State, Big Debate: Race,” on Tuesday, October 6, 2015, at Fairfield University. As a nonpartisan, nonprofit news organization, The Mirror now has more journalists covering public policy in Connecticut than any other news organization in the state, with a focus on politics, income disparities, education, health care and housing. We intend to create an environment for thought and discussion while also pursuing new coverage areas, including criminal justice.

Since The Mirror is now the premier public policy news organization in Connecticut with 11 strategic media partners that cover more than 70 percent of the state, the overall objective of the event ties into the question: "How will public policy impact diverse populations in Connecticut in the immediate and distant future?"

The one-day event will feature a keynote speaker, expert panel discussions, breakout collaboration rooms, and interactive video and audio booths to support the “Race in Connecticut is …” multimedia initiative, which will capture thoughts (written or oral) from the event’s attendees on a thought-provoking and wide-ranging topic. The day will also feature a hackathon, where programmers are tasked with creating a desktop/mobile application or API (application programming interface) based on racial profiling data. A reception will cap the day’s event.

We hope to see you there.
