Newhallville Promise Land Festival a Great Success
NHS had the pleasure of participating at the annual Newhallville Promise Land Festival held at the Lincoln-Bassett School on Saturday, August 1. The event kicked off the month of August with a day of family fun. Numerous vendors from the New Haven area offered back-to-school giveaways, social services, and health care information. There was also a Promise Land Basketball playoff that draw in a large youth crowd. Live entertainment from local gospel acts kept the energy and spirit going for all who were in attendance!

NHS staff enjoyed monitoring the Festival's "kiddie land", which featured an obstacle course that was a big hit with the children! They helped participants through the course and completed the journey with a victory slide at the end. NHS also manned a tent nearby for parents and guests to learn more about our services. We look forward to participating in this event again next year!

NHS presence at the City Transformation  Plan Community Expo
NHS staffers, Shayla Williams and Hannah Wells, were in attendance during the City Transformation Plan Community Expo on the evening of July 28th in the Beecher School. Mayor Toni Harp held the event to present a draft of the Plan and to seek out further commentary and suggestions from residents.
The event was well-attended, and after a series of community conversations, many key quality-of-life issues were addressed, including affordable housing, jobs, education, the environment, etc.
Organizers encouraged guests with children to attend by offering a free dinner, and activities for children. Community organizations were present as well, sharing information on a range of programs and services throughout the city.

It was truly encouraging to see so many elected officials attend the event, including a State Senator, the Mayor, and several alders. There were many votes for strategies involving community garden additions, and an increase in affordable housing - both areas relating to NHS.
