NAACP President & CEO Cornell William Brooks to Provide Keynote Address at Greater Hartford NAACP Freedom FundDinner
(Hartford, CT) - The Greater Hartford NAACP’s 98th Annual Freedom Fund & Membership Dinner will feature National President & CEO Cornell William Brooks as keynote speaker. The event will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 25, 2015, at the Hilton Hartford Hotel, 315 Trumbull Street, Hartford, CT. The Fifth State Assembly District State Representative Brandon L. McGee, Jr. will serve as the Master of Ceremonies.
Brooks, a Yale Law School graduate and civil-rights attorney, was appointed as the president & CEO of the National Association for the Advancement of People in 2014. He has served as; Senior Counsel for the Federal Communications Commission, as Executive Director for the Fair Housing Council of Greater Washington, and most recently as president and CEO of the Newark-based New Jersey Institute for Social Justice. Brooks is currently leading the NAACP’s “America’s Journey for Justice”, a 40-day (860 mile) march from Selma, Alabama to Washington, D.C. The march aims to bring awareness around policies to ensure all American have the right to a fair criminal justice system, uninhibited access to vote, sustainable jobs, living wages, and equitable public education.
The Freedom Fund Dinner is the Greater Hartford NAACP’s signature fundraising event. Proceeds from the dinner will support the Mrs. Ella Little Cromwell Scholarship Fund, Back to School Drive, Health Fair, as well as ongoing efforts to address voter registration, discrimination and disparities in employment, health, and education.
