Rachel Dolezal: Yes, I am black

In an interview with msnbc's Melissa Harris-Perry, Dolezal explained ... Rachel Dolezal, the former NAACP chapter president who resigned yesterday ... came under fire for having portrayed herself for years as a black woman.

Ficklin Media Note:

Her identity faith claim is interesting. She personally wants and is claiming freedom of choice.  Most folks agree that race is an invention of society as is the concept of nations, states, tribes and even families for that matter.

Would we have created the notion of families but for inheritance and economic control?

She claims that she has felt the claim and power of a particular culture , customs and style at an early age. I suppose so did Elvis for that matter and even the Rolling Stones.

In essence she is asserting that the two individuals who mated and the female that birthed her, were just vessels of  natural production and that they do not have the right to determine who  I am and have no say over defining me.

Perhaps this will be viewed as a tipping point by historians where mobs of people declaring that they are non racial,  or perhaps recognizing that once you go black you can not come back !
