 The Year of Consecrated Life, proclaimed by Pope Francis, was addressed at Wisdom House on May 30 with the program "Consecrated Life: Its Expressions and Evolution." The reflection day on the meaning and evolving forms of consecrated life was facilitated by Sally Woodhall, Rosemarie Greco, DW, and Jo-Ann Iannotti, OP. The flow of the day included:
1. The consecration of all creation by God; consecration in Sacred Scripture and in the writings of Teilhard de Chardin. Addressed by Sally Woodhall.
2. The evolving forms of consecrated life from apostolic times to the present, including the primary consecration of Baptism. Addressed by Sister Rosemarie.
3. Ways in which dualism of sacred-secular has been a hindrance.
4. Vatican II documents, especially The Church in the Modern World and Decree on the Laity gave a renewed respect for the call to holiness and dedication to mission for all baptized persons.
5. How can we live a Gospel life in an evolving and ever changing world? This is our call to be sacred in a sacred universe; to be con-secrated, "with the sacred". Nothing is profane here for those who can see (Teilhard de Chardin). In the final presentation, Sister Jo-Ann offered a personal witness of her call and living out of the consecrated life as an apostolic religious woman.
Participants were from diverse segments of the Christian community. The lively conversation brought "awakening" to all. Participants' comments included: "I have not heard of anyone doing consecrated life from this perspective. It was a fresh approach for all of us," and, "Thanks for a broad, inclusive vision of the theme."
