Starting with a full day at Harvard University, the Conference Of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO) is holding its 44th National Meeting and Training Conference in Boston, Massachusetts at the historic Boston Park Plaza Hotel. Hosted by Stephanie Pollack, Secretary of MassDOT and Dr. Charles Ogletree, Professor,
Harvard Law School, hosting the Day At Harvard, the conference runs
from Saturday, July 11 through Tuesday, July 14, 2015. COMTO's
conference theme is Growing America: Embracing Innovation, Inspiring Leaders and Bridging Opportunities.
Along
with COMTO members, leading professionals nationwide in all sectors of
the transportation industry, and industry partners from both the public
and private sectors across the country, will attend.
USDOT Secretary, Anthony Foxx, is the invited keynote speaker for the opening plenary session, Monday, July 13.
"Boston has a number of firsts," said Robert Prince,
COMTO's National Chair and former Massachusetts Bay Transportation
Authority (MBTA) General Manager. "Harvard is among the first, if not the first
university in the country. I was the first African American to run a
transit system here. And, COMTO's Transportation Symposium at Harvard
will be the first in a very important series of Regional Transportation
Symposiums COMTO will conduct throughout the year."
About COMTO
Founded
in 1971 on the campus of Howard University in Washington, DC, the
Conference Of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO) was created to
provide a forum for senior level minority professionals in the
transportation industry. The mission of COMTO is to ensure a
level playing field and maximum participation in the transportation
industry for minority individuals, businesses and communities of color
through advocacy, information sharing, training, education and
professional development. The organization membership includes
individuals, groups, transportation agencies, non-profits and
Historically Underutilized Businesses (HUBs).
From
highways and roads to mass transit systems; from subways to rail
systems; and from port authorities to airports, COMTO members represent
every facet of the transportation industry. They are the presidents and
chief executive officers who determine the direction of major
transportation systems and the mechanics and operators who ensure the
safe passage of millions of transportation riders every day.
