Impressions in Photography: A Retreat for the Senses at Mirbeau Inn & Spa

Impressions in Photography: A Retreat for the Senses
at Mirbeau Inn & Spa

PLYMOUTH, Mass. – May 11, 2015 – This summer, Mirbeau Inn & Spa at The Pinehills will open its doors to award-winning fine art photographer Charles Needle for a retreat designed to instruct and inspire photographers and art lovers alike. With more than 10 years of teaching experience at Claude Monet’s Garden in Giverny, Needle will introduce participating guests to the art of expressive and painterly photography using nothing more than a digital camera or smartphone and Mirbeau’s Monet-reminiscent gardens as a color palette.
The two-day photography retreat will take place from July 13-15, with a focus on capturing striking images of flowers that compel guests to look beyond shapes and into the essence of each subject. The workshop, hosted in partnership with locally-based Hunt’s Photo & Video, begins with an orientation and cocktail reception upon arrival on Monday, July 13, and throughout the workshop, participants will enjoy a series of photoshoot sessions with one-on-one instruction, immersive lectures about macro and impressionistic photography, group image evaluations and Q&As.
Needle’s work has been featured in publications such as Nature’s Best and Outdoor Photographer, and the “Inner Reflections” engagement calendar. He received the Showcase Award from the North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA) for six years in a row and was a finalist in the International Garden Photographer of the Year photo contest, sponsored by the Royal Botanic Gardens. A Fuji Film USA Talent Team member and author of three cutting-edge photography textbooks, Needle evokes spiritual energy, meditation and healing through his images, which are on permanent display in hospitals, offices and homes nationwide.
Package rates start at $1,355 for single occupancy and $1,870 for double occupancy, and include two nights’ accommodations; all class activities; a signed copy of Charles Needle’s extensive and educational book, “Impressionistic Photography: A Field Guide to Using Your Camera as a Paintbrush”; cocktail reception; daily breakfast; lunch and dinner on Monday, April 13; and taxes, fees and service charges. All skill levels are welcome, and guests are required to bring a digital camera and/or a smartphone to participate. For further details and reservations, call 877-MIRBEAU (647-2328).
