HARTFORD >> A panel of experts and community leaders is meeting for the first time to begin reviewing ways to reduce urban youth violence in Connecticut.
Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman announced the Governor’s Commission on Youth and Urban Violence last month. The 26-member group will be overseen by Wyman and is scheduled to meet Monday afternoon at the Legislative Office Building.
Michael Lawlor, a commission member and the state’s undersecretary for criminal justice policy, is expected to make a presentation on trends in the criminal justice system. Also, representatives from Yale University and UConn School of Law are supposed to discuss research on youth and urban violence.
Despite the state’s overall decline in crime, Malloy said more can be done to further drop the rate.
