Science Saturdays is a special science demonstration and lecture series that brings the excitement of research and the passion of scientists to all.  Each event involves a lecture by a Yale professor and engaging science demonstrations run by Yale college students. This weekend, come hear Prof. Art Horwich tell us about chaperonins, the molecules that fold other molecules. All sorts of biomolecules that your body depends on, from enzymes to visual pigments, only work right if they are folded up in just the right way. Sometimes important molecules in our cells get unfolded, which can cause metabolic problems or even severe diseases. Chaperonins are molecules that collect improperly folded proteins and put their creases back in the right places.  This weekend at Science on Saturday, Prof. Horwich will tell us about how he discovered the chaperonin GroEL and how it functions.
