NEW HAVEN >> City youths working with the Connecticut People’s World Committee are planning a march for peace and unity Feb. 22 to focus attention on recent killings of young African Americans, including Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown and Eric Garner.
The march will coincide with a broader People’s World 41st Annual African American History Month Celebration. It will begin at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 22, at the New Haven People’s Center, 37 Howe St.
“We’re tired of seeing” young black people shot, “so we came up with the idea to have a march made from the youth, about peace and jobs for all,” said Jordan King, 13, an eighth-grader at Edgewood Magnet School who is a member of New Elm City Dream and chairman of the committee planning the march.
