Burgundy Books Lecture Book's Lecture Series, Featuring Douglas Jones on the life, legends and Legacy of Venture Smith.- Saturday 2/18/15

Avocational Historian Douglas R. Jones an authority on the life, legends and legacy of Venture Smith, an 18th cen. African Prince and his extraordinary journey, from African captivity into a self-liberated proud Ct land owner prospering in commerce within a new world, manifesting into empowerment as a “Victorious African Yankee.

Mr. Jones’s research, of this largely unknown African American Patriot has been noted since 1998, and featured in the New York Times among many venues and other national publications.

“Venture is an intriguing mystical presence, literally larger than life and renowned in his time and significant place and yet largely not thought of, almost as if he escaped note over time and not but for some noted historical study established, until now. Douglas R. Jones brings Broteer Venture Smith's story and times to life and it is a worthy one to ponder."     Philip Miller, naturalist and Connecticut State Representative.

“After much hard work and perseverance a precious portion of the state and nations history will be restored. Venture Smith's story has been told and retold but until now it has had an unconsecrated end. The return of his wife’s headstone brings a needed exclamation point to this story.  I salute and congratulate Douglas R. Jones and his supporters for a job well done”.
