To Change the World

You have probably heard Mark Zuckerberg talk about creating Facebook to change the world. Recently a friend mentioned to me that he would like to focus on transforming the world and maximizing the cohesive energy of religion rather than the divisive  historical ideologies.

I was thinking that the search for meaning  is such a vital stimulus.

During my days at the Yale Divinity School, folks like Paul Tillich and other theologians who focused on what does it mean to be human provided me with an expanded mental canvass , especially in my post college years.

Perhaps although we are not caterpillars or butterflies, we as humans might have to shed our former skins conceptually and  even  do so repeatedly  consciously and unconsciously until death do us part.

I mention the marriage metaphor for perhaps the wedding and union with our various selves requires a frequent shifting and reordering. New wine in new wine skins comes to mind.

At any rate, whether you are being measured by the prime rate,  sub prime rate, over the counter rate, gold standard or libor, the daily transactions of being a human can take a debilitating  toll or be a delightful reinvestment  in our constantly evolving desire to be human .
