NEW HAVEN >> A discussion about Common Core state standards Tuesday at Varick AME Zion Church was absent heated arguments against the standards — and instead featured panelists discussing next steps for implementation and parent concerns about larger educational issues.
The standards, which have become an issue of national contention, have been spared some of that frustration in New Haven, Federation of Teacher’s Union President David Cicarella said, due to the collaboration teachers have with the administrators.
“It really has been the fact that we do have real input, our input is valued and so that’s made it easier,” Cicarella said.
