Fire dominates the month of January this year, and Mars is active during the beginning, middle and end of the month.
Fire is the element of individuation and creative expression. With fire strong this month it's time to explore your creativity and create new channels of expression or bring back the old ones and mine their gold.
Creative expression puts the imagination to use, but also raises leftover childhood issues of belonging and acceptance. The child is each of us delights in reconfiguring the universe along new lines of imagination, even if those lines clash with the way "it's supposed to be." When you release new configurations their birth pains tend to make waves, and since fire is the ultra-subjective element, feelings can get tender and bruised. Sometimes it takes the wisdom of the Fool to believe in your own dream long enough to make it come true, especially if it contradicts the status quo. Any dream or vision being midwifed this month receives an extra boost, especially if it's supported by the grand design of the cosmic blueprint written in the soul.
Mars's heightened activity amplifies January's excess of fire because Mars seeks to claim its rightful territory, to champion a worthy cause, and to release pent-up emotion. In sexuality Mars is the urge to give, to touch, to orchestrate and express, whereas Venus is the quality of receiving, deepening, attuning within. With both Mars and Fire strong this month, sexual vibrations will be rising, and lusty desire will be in the air.

Mars supplies power for us to break away from old obsolete beliefs and ways of being. In its highest and most noble form, Mars is the True Masculine that champions the cause of evolution, the heroic strength to push open the stuck gates of change, and urge the human spirit to transcend its limits and rise to its truest nature.
The harsh and frictional side of Mars is when someone claims contested territory that may not be rightful and sinks into wrong-headedness; misuse of the masculine need to claim and dominate, rather than inspire and liberate.
The best use of this fiery Mars month is to harness creative forces and turn dreams into art. Catch a passing star, grab some inspiration, write it in a journal, paint the sky, conjure those poems, songs and visions that help us all reconfigure reality along a new track. Dance with the sun and moon. Pick up a musical instrument. Launch some creative project that might fall flat on its face or fly with angels and soar through the universe taking many others with it.
