***FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE***
The Grove Studios changes its name to baobab tree studios.
When The Grove – the region’s premier coworking space - grew and expanded to its current location at 760 Chapel one of its founding members – Kevin (RevKev) Ewing – held on to the old space at 71 Orange and began developing a new concept in coworking, targeted at creative types in digital media. In September of 2014 The Grove Studios was officially opened and the business started accepting memberships.
From its founding the concept of this new studio was to create a space where creatives in digital media could gather and create the content that fills the web and other digital media outlets. It bills itself as a ‘digital media content creation maker-space.’ “We have created a space for people in the community – businesses, non-profits, students, agencies or just regular folks – to gather and share their stories” says RevKev, the founder. “We have an audio/radio/podcasting studio, video/photography studio, coworking space, private offices and graphics/editing machines loaded with Adobe Creative Cloud ready for you. We are building a creative space to tell your story.” Current members include graphic artists, fashion designers, artist managers, video producers, filmmakers, radio talk show hosts and the developers of a social media application called Spangle. All that is needed now is you.
How does it work?
There are two ways to access the resources of baobab tree studios. First is by purchasing a monthly membership. Members receive a set number of hours each month that they can use on their productions. In addition they are allowed a set number of days to use the space as their office (during regular business hours.) The other way to access the space is to rent what you need for when you need it. Rates are shown on the website (www.baobabtreestudios.tv) or you can stop by one day to check out the space and pick up a Rate Card.
Why the name change?
“It is time,” says RevKev. “It is time for us to come from under the cover of The Grove and branch out on our own. It is time for us to set our own roots in the community. We continue to be a sister of The Grove and will always work in partnership on many things. But we are separate businesses with different ownership. It is time for us to stand on our own.”
What’s up with the new name?
The tree in the logo is the baobab tree. As a child, RevKev heard the story of the baobab tree and has been intrigued by the tree since. The story is of a tree that grows mostly in Africa. It’s an ugly tree to look at but is also known as ‘The Tree of Life’ because every portion of the tree is useable. The baobab tree holds thousands of gallons of water, which comes in handy in Sub-Saharan Africa. Animals and people often tap the trees for that life giving drink. The leaves, bark and fruit have many medicinal qualities including more vitamin C than oranges and plenty of antioxidants. The tree grows tall and wide and as it matures becomes hollow. So people and animals use the baobab tree for businesses and even to live in.
But of most significance to RevKev is the tree often sits in the middle of a village. The elders relax under the tree and invite the people to join them to share stories. “It fits,” says RevKev. “We are a creative space to tell your story. So we invite you. Come join us under the baobab tree and share your stories.”
Hosted business hours are Monday – Friday, 10:00 a.m. through 6:00 p.m. but the space is available 24/7 for your production needs. Need help? Swing by and we’ll be glad to help you get started.
