An agency devoted to monitoring the well-being of Connecticut’s African-American community wants to be included in the crafting of a model policy that will establish new standards for the state’s police departments for taking complaints of misconduct by officers.
Glenn Cassis, executive director of the Connecticut African-American Affairs Commission, said the agency “is having difficulty finding out what is going on” with the model policy being developed with the Police Officer Standards and Training Council, which is a part of the state’s Department of Emergency Services & Public Protection. The council was given the task of developing the policy after lawmakers passed Public Act 14-166 during the last legislative session and Gov. Dannel P. Malloy signed it in June.
