There are talented people with great aspirations that simply lack the non-academic core competency skills necessary for success. I want to teach them those skills so that they can live a good life.
An online platform leveraging technology to provide young adults with the non-academic core competencies they need to succeed.
What is The Good Life?
The Good Life U is an online platform that leverages the use of technology to provide young adults the non-academic core competencies they need to achieve their academic and professional goals.
Why do we care? The Good Life started as a consulting firm in October of 2011 out of a passion for seeing people live their best life possible despite their circumstances. While meeting with client after client, I began to see a common thread. Highly motivated individuals with awesome life-goals lacked the basic skills they needed to make their dream a tangible reality. The heart of The Good Life is to eliminate this shortfall and help propel individuals on their path toward their academic and professional success.
I hold a Master’s Degree in Education and began my career as an elementary school teacher. I’ve served as an educational policy research analyst with the University of Connecticut where I learned a lot about qualitative and quantitative research methodology. I also participated in the Lean Start-Up Challenge at a technology and business incubator in Chicago called 1871. I have a vested interest in developing a socially-relevant and leading edge learning solution for my target audience. I was inspired to put my experience to work to help young people gain the non-academic skills they need to be successful.
How does it work?
1. Subscribers visit our website, fill out a simple initial intake form, and complete a skills survey which looks at their non-academic core competencies.
2. The results of the skills survey generate a tailored learning plan from The Good Life’s library of online courses.
3. We track each subscriber’s progress through the recommended leaning plan and, upon completion, offer guidance for continued development opportunities. Non-academic core competencies are the attitudes and skills that a student should develop by the time he/she graduates from an academic program. They are the qualities that are necessary for success and excellence in any field of service.
What’s the problem?
Academic programs do not systematically teach core competencies. For example, upon graduation from high school, many young adults are still grossly underdeveloped in their ability to think analytically, execute tasks and small projects, maintain healthy and productive interpersonal relationships, and process new and changing information. Unfortunately, these young adults are met with a host of rude awakenings when the world tells them that their academic success alone was not sufficient. The Good Life U is a good solution to this problem. As an online educational platform it is accessible to a wide range of users. Through our tech-enabled survey and skill-matching services we are uniquely equipped to cater to the needs of our users.
What’s Our Fundraising Goal?
We are looking to raise $10,000 in start-up funds to launch The Good Life’s website including our initial suite of online courses. With the help of our supporters, we will equip thousands of young adults with the non-academic tools they need to achieve their best life despite their circumstances. Please contribute to my campaign to make The Good Life U a reality - we can't do it without help.
