Improve Your Preparedness Plans
September is National Preparedness Month. In support of the month–long focus, September 16 was Get Ready Day as designated by American Public Health Association (APHA). The APHA is an organization of more than 25,000 public health professionals across the United States and around the world. Its membership is a “who’s who” of public health professionals to include most of the state public health commissioners.
I viewed the Get Ready Day’s panel discussion webinar. One of the four panelists was Dr. Jewel Mullen, commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Public Health. The panelists covered a number of topics that were informative and cautionary. Additionally, they provided specific information about publications, apps and websites for additional preparedness information. (www.getreadyforflu.org)
In recent memory, Connecticut’s businesses and citizens have endured — snowstorms, a hurricane, power outages, flu epidemics, tornadoes, earthquakes, road closures, property damage, floods, and various other storms. As a result of these events, there have been business interruptions, losses of revenue, property and sometimes life.
