Separate and Unequal-Watch Tonight

Is school segregation making a comeback?

Tonight, FRONTLINE presents Separate and Unequal — a special report from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where a group of mostly white, middle-class citizens, dissatisfied with low-performing schools in their district, are trying to break away and form a new city with its own separate school system.

Critics say breakaway efforts like this one may be reversing hard-fought civil rights gains — but supporters say it's simply about securing a quality education for their children.
