Ficklin Media Commentary: Today is 50th anniversary of the signing of the 1964 Civil Rights Act- What an Ongoing Tragedy
Today is 50th anniversary of the signing of the 1964 Civil Rights Act
Sometimes I just do not feel like saying the polite thing or being politically correct.
The signing of the 1964 Civil Rights Act strikes me as a momentous historical landmark of deceit, deception, denial and full of distaste( the s word does not alliterate)
It is easy for me to bash.
I did not march, did not get bloodied, did not get shot at, did not get buried in an earthen damn , did not get shot in my driveway, did not get blown up at Sunday School, did not have to walk to work for year, etc.
In the luxury and safe enclave of New Haven I can wax radical and try to rewrite history.
So let me try to calm down. Does it not seem at least a little weird that after being among the first to die for Independence, to be among those dying during the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, The War between the States and every other war, it seems to be a historical farce that in 1864 my bad I mean 1964 that a "law" had to be passed to increase the "civil rights" for some Americans. I could go on and on, but have to run out to the beach, put my feet in the sand and post some pics !
