New Haven Gun Buy Back System
NEW HAVEN >> Get your guns; it’s time for a “peaceful retaliation.”
The city will host two gun buybacks this summer as part of a “peaceful retaliation” against gun violence, Mayor Toni Harp said Monday. The buybacks are entirely anonymous with no identification necessary and no questions asked.
The first buyback is slated for June 28 at 710 Sherman Ave., the New Haven Police Academy. The second buyback is slated for July 12 at 261 Portsea Street, the location of Radio Amor. Both events will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The buybacks are funded by an $8,000 contribution from Yale-New Haven Hospital.
Handguns, shotguns and rifles will yield a $75 gift card to either Stop & Shop or Target. Assault weapons will receive a $150 gift card. People can bring in more than one firearm, no questions asked, said Assistant Chief Luiz Casanova.
