MAYOR HARP TO COMMEMORATE NEW HAVEN’S CARIBBEAN AMERICAN HERITAGE
AT CITY HALL CEREMONY THIS EVENING

New Haven – Mayor Toni N. Harp and representatives from eight
Caribbean nations will mark June as National Caribbean American Heritage
Month, and declare today Caribbean American Heritage Day in New Haven at
a City Hall ceremony this evening.

The announcement will take place today, June 30th, at 5:00 p.m. on the
second floor of City Hall.  Members of the press corps are invited to
attend and cover this event.

Caribbean Americans, with backgrounds from Cuba to Trinidad & Tobago,
constitute one of the largest ethnic groups in New Haven. Caribbean
American Heritage Month is an occasion to celebrate the contributions of
the Caribbean American community, and to further the understanding of
Caribbean American culture and history. 

● Who: Mayor Toni N. Harp; and representatives from the St.
Lucian, Trinidadian, Haitian, Dominica, Puerto Rican, Dominican,
Barbadian, and Jamaican communities.

● What: Commemoration of Caribbean American Heritage Month.

● When: Monday, June 30th, at 5:00 p.m.

● Where: Second Floor of City Hall, 165 Church Street – New
Haven.

● Why: To announce the celebration of National Caribbean American
Heritage Month Day, and to honor the contributions of Caribbean American
culture to New Haven’s community and civic life.
