Original Ancestors
This wonderful sculpture comes from the Nok civilization (1000 bc-300 ce) of Ancient Nigeria. It is an artistic narrative expressing the West African worldview. Each person featured is holding each other's raised hand. Each person has a separate head, yet they all share the same body. On the body, there are reliefs of more people (particularly of families holding babies), that which unity creates.
