Regina Carter is a MacArthur Foundation “Genius” Fellow whose work has explored the African roots of the violin. Her most recent album is inspired by her family background in Alabama, where her grandfather was a coal miner.
In this talk, together with historian and Yale professor Crystal Feimster, Ms. Carter discusses cultural heritage, identity and the power of improvisation.
