Tinney is one of the founders of the New Haven Public Safety Academy
started at Hillhouse High School and an active mentor in the community.
He said the mother of six stuck with him because he knew her son could
benefit from someone “trying to advise him on how to make the right
decisions.”
The city is offering mentors for youth through two main programs,
Gang of Dads and My Brother’s Keeper. Gang of Dads focuses on younger,
middle school-age children, and My Brother’s Keeper focuses on older
students between 16 and 24, Bartlett said.
