YALE UNIVERSITY vs WILEY COLLEGE
IN CT NAACP’S SIXTH ANNUAL GREAT DEBATE
New Haven, CT—Come bear witness as some of the country’s brightest young minds—from two of the Nation’s
most prominent universities—intellectually exchange ideas over cutting
edge topics facing the inner city community. The topics that will be
debated are "Common Core Courses" and the new White House "My Brothers
Keeper Initiative" in a thought-provoking witty discussion at the
NAACP’s 6th Annual Great Debate.
The
drama, humor and insights on these very important issues will keep
spectators excited and engaged while at the same time giving the
individuals that attend the event and opportunity to meet and mingle with the Debaters and some of the State's top community leaders.
Similar
Debates have been hosted by the NAACP in Seattle, WA, Houston, TX, New
York, NY, and Washington, DC. Competing schools have included Wiley
College, Yale University, Harvard University, Columbia University,
Hampton University, Howard University and Morehouse University. This
will be the Sixth debate being held in New Haven, CT. The event is Sold
Out and there will be over 1600 people in attendance.
The Moderator will be NAACP National Board Member, Lamell McMorris. Mr. McMorris is the Founder & CEO of Perennial Strategy Group and Perennial Entertainment. He serves as the lead negotiator for the Major League Baseball Umpires Union and the National Basketball Association's Referees Union, where he played a key role in shaping collective bargaining agreements between the officials and their respective leagues. He is an active and effective fundraiser, and drawing on his wide network of prominent athletes, entertainers, and activists, has driven Perennial to raise significant financial contributions for charitable causes across the Nation. Feature pieces about McMorris and Perennial have appeared in The New York Times, on ESPN, and in Referee: The Magazine for Sports Officials. Mr. McMorris is a lifelong advocate for those less fortunate than himself and is constantly looking to help improve the condition of our Nation’s most disadvantaged communities. He serves on the boards of numerous civil rights organizations and volunteers his time with several youth service and mentoring organizations. Mr. McMorris is frequently honored by advocacy and nonprofit organizations and invited to speak at a wide range of conferences and events.
