Newhallville Community Resilience Team plans health event

NEW HAVEN >> A new grassroots group in Newhallville is
looking to improve the physical health of residents in the neighborhood
as a springboard to solve other issues.

The Newhallville Community Resilience Team will host Get Healthy Newhallville 2014 at Lincoln-Bassett School on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m.

“If we can stay healthy and fit that takes away some of the stress,” said Robyn Porter, co-chair of the team.

There will be free health screenings for diabetes, hypertension
and other diseases that often go undiagnosed for those who are medically
underserved, Porter said. There will also be information on how to join
the state’s Access Health CT insurance marketplace just in time for the
open enrollment deadline on March 31.

Adults and kids can also learn fun ways to work out, such as by
performing line dancing. Newhallville Officer Robert Hwang will also be
on hand to teach Tae Kwon Do.

Kids can also participate in a drama therapy at the event through the Post Traumatic Stress Center.

Police are helping spread the word about the event.
