Harp’s public safety subcommittee to hold hearing Monday night
NEW HAVEN >> The public safety subcommittee of Mayor-elect Toni Harp’s transition team is holding a public hearing Monday evening to gather information on community policing and other safety issues, according to a release.
“Mayor-elect Toni Harp has asked our committee to reach out to the citizens of New Haven for their ideas on public safety priorities,” said Bill Carbone, long-serving executive director of the Court Support Services Division of the state’s Judicial Branch, and chairman of the subcommittee. “We know our community is deeply concerned about this issue and our committee looks forward to hearing their ideas on how we can make our city a safer place to live, work, be educated and enjoy the culture and richness of our downtown and neighborhoods.”
Carbone said he is eager to receive ideas and suggestions from people active in the nonprofit community, other activists and residents and public safety personnel and employees.
The hearing is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. in the basement public hearing room at 200 Orange St.
“Safe streets provide a foundation for effective job creation and economic development efforts just as safe schools are a cornerstone for a sound public education system,” Harp said in the release. “It follows that safe neighborhoods and an overall sense of security improve the quality of life for all who live, work, and visit New Haven – since so many people have a stake in this I hope many of them will turn out and contribute to this public safety discussion on Monday.”
Those unable to attend can submit their suggestions on the transition team’s website, http://www.harptransition.com, or mail the Harp Transition Team, P.O. Box 3308, Westville Station, New Haven, CT 06515.
