DataHaven Community Index
A comprehensive report that examines the demographics, educational achievement, economics, health and civic life of greater New Haven is now available.
Known as “The Greater New Haven Community Index 2013: Benchmarking the People, Economic Opportunity, Health Needs, and Civic Life of Our Region,” the 86-page report was recently released by DataHaven and its local partners. The index is believed to be the most comprehensive report of its type ever published in the New Haven region. It compares the region’s performance in a number of key areas with state and national averages.
“This report is a comprehensive tool which can stimulate us all to think creatively and collaboratively about how to improve the health and overall quality of life of all those in the Greater New Haven Region, so that soon we can have an even better story to tell about all residents, not just the more fortunate among us,” said Yale School of Public Health Dean Paul Cleary, who serves on DataHaven’s board of directors.
YSPH Professor Jeannette Ickovics is a co-author of the report, as is Sarah Conderino, an M.P.H. candidate. Mark Abraham, DataHaven’s executive director, is the report’s lead author.
Many of the report’s findings are broken down into graphics, some of which are displayed here. A full copy of the community index can be viewed at www.ctdatahaven.org/ communityindex
