Press Release from Senator Toni Nathaniel Harp
Technology improvements are on the way to New Haven Public schools. Senate Majority Leader Martin M. Looney (D-New Haven) and Senator Toni N. Harp (D-New Haven) joined Superintendent Garth Harries in touting Governor Malloy’s announcement that New Haven will receive more than $2.6 million from the state to bring more computers into classrooms and increase Internet bandwidth. This investment provides vital support to students, teachers as the district completes the transition to the Common Core State Standards and the accompanying computer-based Smarter Balanced assessments.
“In order to succeed in the modern economy, New Haven students must possess both the knowledge and skills to compete with students from across Connecticut and across the globe,” said Senator Looney. “By bringing more technology into the classroom we can bridge the technological divide and prepare students for college and beyond. I want to thank Governor Malloy and commissioner Pryor for their work on behalf of New Haven’s students.”
“This state grant will advance our collective effort to help every student in New Haven become comfortable and productive with the technology upon which our culture and our economy now depend,” Senator Harp said. “Familiarity with today’s technology enables students to learn in disciplines across-the-board, opening the door for them to participate fully wherever their interests lead.”
