ELEVEN28 ENTERTAINMENT TO HOST 100 MEN OF COLOR GALAMotivational Speaker Eric Thomas to Provide Keynote Address

HARTFORD – Entertainment company Eleven28 Entertainment today announced plans to host the 100 Men of Color Gala in Hartford, recognizing men of color from Springfield to Stamford who have achieved distinction in their profession or industry, and made a difference in the community.

The event will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013 at the Connecticut Science Center. Proceeds from the event will support a number of nonprofit organizations.

“There is often a disproportionate amount of negative information that is disseminated about our young men,” said Eleven28 President June Archer. “I wanted to inspire these young men by recognizing the many, many men of color in our realm who are powerfully and thoughtfully changing our communities for the better.”

The gala will feature a keynote address by Eric Thomas, renowned speaker, educator, author, and activist. Thomas, a former high school dropout who is nationally recognized for his message of breaking the cycles of crime, has helped thousands of youth reach their potential. Thomas will deliver a message of his own life’s struggles and the principles, insights and strategies he used to overcome them. Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra and Governor Dannel Malloy will also be in attendance to address these men of distinction.

A portion of gala proceeds will fund The Science Center Exploration Camp, Scholarships, Community Activities and other nonprofit organizations. Through this event, Eleven28 seeks to remove barriers that limit participation in educational, extra-curricular, and community endeavors. Research has shown that participation in such activities improves access to higher learning, fosters community responsibility, and promotes a healthy social environment in which our young men deserve in order to thrive.
