Yale College Democrats to Host First Public Mayoral Debate in New Haven
New Haven, CT – On Saturday, April 20th,
the Yale College Democrats will host a public debate for Democratic
candidates seeking the office of Mayor of New Haven. The debate will
take place at 4:00 pm in Linsly Chittenden Hall (63 High Street) in Room
101 and will be open to both Yale students and the greater New Haven
community.
Nicole
Hobbs, President of the Yale College Democrats, will moderate the
debate, which will feature declared candidates Justin Elicker, Henry
Fernandez, Gary Holder-Winfield, and Sundiata Keitazulu. Several
on-campus organizations and the Ward 1 and Ward 22 Town Committees have
agreed to co-sponsor the debate and to supply questions for the
candidates. Additionally, members of the public will have the
opportunity upon arrival to submit questions for possible inclusion in
the latter half of the debate.
“With
such a competitive field of candidates, it's important to hear from all
of them about their positions on the issues facing New Haven,“ said
Hobbs in a statement. “The Yale College Democrats are pleased to be able
to host this debate and provide a forum for the Yale community and the
greater New Haven community to hear from these candidates about their
vision for this city.”
The
event will mark the first public debate in New Haven with all four
declared candidates. The Democratic primary will be held on September 10th.
