Yesterday was Patriot's Day in Boston. I have actually renamed the day from the Ficklin Media perspective Crispus Attuck's Day. History is always being rewritten and reclaimed not to mention redefined, but I really do not know how to describe what took place in Boston during the running of the Boston Marathon.
"Patriot's Day (or Patriots' Day) commemorates the battles of Lexington and Concord, which were fought near Boston in 1775. Patriot's Day is annually held on the third Monday of April. Crispus Attucks (c. 1723 – March 5, 1770) was an American slave, merchant seaman and dockworker of Wampanoag and African descent. Many people think he was the first person shot dead by British redcoats during the Boston Massacre, in Boston, Massachusetts. "
Note of course that Crispus Attucks was of Native and African descent and that although dying for freedom, genocide and servitude continued to be inflicted upon many of those that possessed his DNA for many years later.
But I digress.
It is of course understandable to describe yesterday as an act of designed terror. It is
understandable to juxtapose the Boston Mini Massacre of 2013 with the numerous bombings taking place in Irag on that same day, or in Syria or in other parts of the world. It is understandable to expect even additional security measures to be proposed for large public events.
As one thinks about freedom and patriotism and even attention being paid to North Korea as I write this post ,once again in this particular moment of collective and revolving sojourn on this spec of dust in the galaxy, we can chose to proclaim as we once did that that British are coming, or My Country Tis of Thee, or Power to the People.
The political mantra of the day may change. But peaceful warrior army never has enough recruits.
