“The Gathering” is a citywide ethnic festival being held May 18, 2013 in downtown
Waterbury. The idea is to bring the city together with children, youth and parents/caregivers to
celebrate Waterbury’s rich, cultural heritage, and showcase the extraordinary diversity within our
communities. This city-sponsored event will be held primarily at Library Park, and along Grand
Street. The festival will include a parade of historic proportions through downtown Waterbury,
highlighting the many ethnic groups who for some, call Waterbury home. The festival will also
include traditional ethnic fare and many activities and entertainment, honoring all of the “Mayors
for the Day” from the previous 12 months.
This is going to be the event of the year in Connecticut Parent Power’s history with
Waterbury, and I am asking for your direct involvement as our Discovery communities and
statewide partners play an intricate part in impacting children, families and providers.
Connecticut Parent Power is working hand in hand with the City of Waterbury organizing
this event with many of our parent leaders and hope to see you all there. As shared, if you are
willing and able to share your resources on this day and would like a table to do so, please
contact me with the name of your organization or programs to ensure that we save your spot.
Please keep in mind that this venue will enable programs or organizations to raise funds
selling any products on site if you would like to. However, if you plan on selling any foods,
pastries, or anything edible…you MUST get a permit to do so that needs to be approved within
15 days before venue or you will not be allowed to do so. Our Waterbury Mayor’s office is
willing to waive any fees with permits, as long as this is completed in within the timeframe
shared in the aforementioned. Please feel free to call me with any questions…
In advance, I thank you for making this statewide collaborative effort a successful one in
our Waterbury community.
Sincerely,
Marilyn Calderon, Executive Director Connecticut Parent Power
