Audrey Elisa Kerr is a professor of African American literature at Southern Connecticut State University. She is the author of The Paper Bag Principle: Class, Colorism and Rumor and the Case of Black Washington, D.C. and she is considered “one of the nation’s leading authorities of color and colorism.” Dr. Kerr has published over 100 articles, essays, book reviews and short stories on topics ranging from 9/11 memoirs to HIV/AIDS and illness narratives.
