Freedom Rider: Killing Children | Black Agenda Report:

Of course, America has a long history of killing little children. Hundreds of thousands of children were taken from Africa to be enslaved in America, little children were lynching victims and children are now killed by drones, sanctions, and the other aggressions that this country meets out to the rest of the world. Israel, America’s client state, kills children in Lebanon or Gaza or wherever it feels the desire to carry out its evil intent. Entire families have been wiped out in Gaza, but the president who so solemnly mourns the loss of life in Connecticut, defends the carnage when his ally is the perpetrator.
America has a long history of state supported killing and the killings didn’t exclude children. Indian children were victimized from the moment the first Europeans arrived in their land. The British, Spanish and French all brought disease, enslavement and outright slaughter to the first American nations. On November 29, 1864, Colorado militia troops killed over 200 Arapaho and Cheyenne at Sand Creek. The victims were almost all women, children and old men. Eyewitness accounts told of children being shot, a fetus removed from its mother and scalped, and mutilations of many victims such as the Cheyenne chief White Antelope. “Besides scalping him the soldiers cut off his nose, ears, and testicles – the last for a tobacco pouch ...”

Ficklin Media Note: i share this article above, not in total defense of all of the claims but just to share the possibility that history connects, the macro and the micro are connected, the gun(s) that "won" the west, and armed the south and the north, were made right here in my home state, the word colt could be substituted for hartford, the word winchester could be substituted for new haven,is it crazy to state the that real mental illness pervasive in some ways, is racism as well. of course society is not totally responsible for "individual" acts of violence but what about state sanctioned acts of violence. Ask your self why japanese americans were sent to prison camps called internment camps and not german americans and italian americans? why was the atomic bomb dropped on japan and not germany.....
this discussion of whether we are being enslaved to the notion of individual freedom( ie the right to bear arms) is so long overdue.

Additional comment and correction from Professor Khalilah Dean Brown,-thanks for commenting and correcting Khalilah L. Brown-Dean Tom I teach about this in my Ethnic Politics in the US course. Just as a point of information, German Americans and Italian Americans were in fact subject to the same treatment as Japanese Americans. Approximately 10,000 Italian Americans were forced out of their homes and designated as alien enemies because of FDR's executive order (9066) and his public proclamation (2527). Italian Americans successfully convinced Bill Clinton to sign the Wartime Violations of Italian American Civil Liberties Act in 2000 to investigate the various violations and institute a comprehensive policy that would protect American citizens from civil liberties violations during times of war. Ironically the September 11th attacks led to the 2001 Patriot Act that overturned nearly all of the protections included in the 2000 Act
