2012 Annual Dinner Featuring Guest Speaker,
Matthew Bai, Chief Political Correspondent, New York Times Magazine

BRIDGEPORT, November 28, 2012 – Over 300 business and community leaders will gather to celebrate as the Bridgeport Regional Business Council holds its 2012 Annual Dinner at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at the Bridgeport Holiday Inn and Conference Center, 1070 Main Street, Bridgeport, CT. The milestone event is sponsored by TD Bank, Bank of America and People’s United Bank. Guest Speaker, Matt BaiChief Political Correspondent for the New York Times Magazine, will be discussing the outcome of the 2012 Presidential election, implications of the election as well as the implications of politics resulting from the election. This year, the Bridgeport Regional Business Council is presenting awards based on the five areas of public policy that have been designated as BRBC priorities: Economic Development, Education, Healthcare, Sustainability and Small Business. The winners were selected from nominations made by members of the Bridgeport Regional Business Council.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
RD Scinto, Inc.

Carlson Construction
Carlson Construction is a provider of commercial and industrial building construction services. The firm specializes in pre-construction, construction management and general contracting services. It designs and builds apartment complexes, condominiums, multi-residential units, government-financed housing and senior citizen care centers. The firm’s interior design expertise includes corporate headquarters, luxury residences, multiunit residences, institutional sites and industrial firms. Carlson Construction’s design and construction process comprises program development, budgeting, architectural design, design development, contract document preparation and scheduling.

Two Roads Brewery
Two Roads Brewing Co. is the brainchild of partners Brad Hittle, Peter Doering, Phil Markowski and Clement Pellani, who envisioned a craft brewery, tasting room, retail area, and space for both private events and outdoor festivals in a refurbished facility at 1700 Stratford Avenue in Stratford. They purchased the 101-year-old, 103,652-square-foot building with 6.6 acres for $2.85 million earlier this year, and have since overseen the $18 million conversion into a state-of-the-art microbrewery. The company, whose name originated from the first line of a Robert Frost poem, is expected to bring 15 new jobs to Stratford during its first year of operation and a total of 70 jobs within the next eight years.

EDUCATION
Housatonic Community College
In August 2012, Housatonic Community College has unveiled a two-certificate Advanced Manufacturing Program for its new regional manufacturing center. The Advanced Manufacturing Program, composed of basic and advanced manufacturing certificates, is the first to be offered through Housatonic’s Regional Advanced Manufacturing Center. Funded in part through a $17.8 million grant for three technology centers at Connecticut Community colleges, the Center is designed to give students the 21st Century knowledge and skills required by today’s manufacturers. The Center features an enhanced manufacturing laboratory and engineering design studio to support the College’s credit and non-credit manufacturing courses.

HEALTHCARE
Southwest CT Agency on Aging
The Southwestern Connecticut Agency on Aging (SWCAA) is a private, not-for-profit corporation, established in 1974. As a designated Area Agency on Aging, SWCAA is a funding source for federal and state dollars for the elderly in southwestern Connecticut. Funding supports services such as nutrition, in-home, legal, health, adult day care/respite, transportation, senior centers and outreach/social support. SWCAA researches and evaluates elderly issues, offers community education related to the needs of the elderly, and serves as an advocate for older individuals. It is a resource for information and referral to services for older adults, such as health insurance, housing, and in-home care.

SMALL BUSINESS
Hampford Research, Inc.
Hampford Research, Inc. (HRI), is a custom chemical manufacturer that has built a reputation for producing high purity specialty chemicals. Hampford Research excel’s in developing improved commercial processes for known chemicals (i.e. improving yields and purity) as well as developing new synthetic routes for less well known chemicals. HRI was established in 1982 as a manufacturer specializing in photo chemicals and radiation cured monomers. Since then, HRI has steadily expanded the industries it serves to include the electronics, personal care & dental, printing & imaging, optical lens and curable adhesive and coatings industries.

SUSTAINABILITY
Park City Green
Park City Green Mattress Recycling Facility, a not-for-profit mattress recycler in Connecticut that operates throughout the Northeastern United States, was founded in July 2011 by the Greater Bridgeport Community Enterprises and Family Reentry/Fresh Start Program and the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Lane County, Oregon, with the assistance of the City of Bridgeport and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. At Park City Green their Mission is to partner with companies, municipalities, organizations and institutions to increase their recycling rates, green and clean neighborhoods and empower communities and individuals economically through job creation.

In addition to the IMPACT Award Winners, the Bridgeport Regional Business Council will be recognizing the following companies for their participation in the Business Council Fitness Challenge, three of which will be awarded the Annual BRBC Healthy Business Award.
