BLACK STUDENT ALLIANCE NEW ENGLAND REGIONAL CONFERENCE
Smith College's Black Student's Alliance will be hosting it's Biannual New England Regional Conference on Feburary 2, 2013. Our mission is to bring together scholars, community activists and students from the New England region to contemplate issues of critical importance in the black community. This year, we have chosen to focus our work as an organization on igniting a dialogue around the role society plays in displaying unfavorable images of black people in the media. Our conference, entitled Breaking Boundaries: Reconstructing the Perception of Blacks in the Media, will concentrate on the stereotypes of blacks that are highlighted in television and film. We plan to collaborate and discuss ideas in which we can create a positive image in the media. Our keynote address this year will be by the wonderful Beverly Bond, CEO/Founder of Black Girls Rock!, Inc.We look forward to seeing you at our conference this year and sharing ideas about strengthing our black community.
