The United States of America has always been divided.
United from time to time due to purpose and crisis, our government is divided by design and intent.The separation of powers is a good thing.
Having the spirit of the country divided is another matter. We were divided from the inception in accepting the "great compromise" of the constitutional 3/5ths clause. Imagine the creativity and genius of convincing ourselves that property could be counted as 3/5ths of a person. The schizophrenia inherent in the American DNA is and will remain poisonous. Consider the attempt by Jefferson in the early drafts to abolish slavery. Consider the Missouri Compromise and 54-40 or fight ! Consider do not shoot until you can see the whites of their eyes.
A country born out of disagreement with the father land. Divided again with horrendous blood letting due to the conflict of whether property rights and states rights should trump human rights.
Consider the psychosis in being able to say on one hand that although you have two hands, two feet, looks like a person, speaks like a person you are not a person and then on the other hand to characterize and legalize the same animate property as 3/5ths of a person for "legal" and political purposes
Consider the upcoming release of the film Lincoln-the Movie, which once again reminds us that even after winning the war, the political battle continued in voting for the 13th amendment.
Consider that in my schizophrenic moments it is un-american for one party to be dominated by those overwhelmingly "distinquished" by their color. Or is it?
Where the votes prior to 1919 legal because women were excluded.
Did the need for the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 declare by the necessity of its reenactment that every election prior to 1965 to be overwhelmingly illegal , unrepresentative and stolen?
Does yesterday only prove that this American experiment in democracy to be still in it's infant stage?
Is the pursuit of life , liberty and the pursuit of happiness a dream still being pursued and waged as ideological warfare and media strangulation?
The real patriots must now like never before take back our country.
