Brazil launches nationwide literacy campaign
Brazil says it will invest $1.35 billion in a nationwide program to ensure that all of the country's school children can read and write by the age of 8.
The money will be invested over the next two years to train 360,000 professors to teach nearly 8 million children in more than 100,000 schools how to read and write.
According to the Education Ministry, 15.2 percent of Brazilian children reach the age of 8 without knowing how to read or write.
