ENDORSEMENT: President Barack Obama should be re-elected- The New Haven Register - Serving New Haven, Connecticut:
Despite his shortcomings, Obama will be remembered as the president who achieved near universal health care through private insurance, a goal that has eluded presidents since Harry S. Truman, who first proposed it in 1948.
In 2011, Obama fulfilled his pledge to get U.S. troops out of Iraq. He is on track to do the same in Afghanistan in 2014. He has shifted the foreign policy focus to China as it has emerged as the world’s second-largest economy with a more assertive military.
