Dear YDS alumni,
SwancuttAs the deadline looms for Yale Divinity School’s Summer Study 2012, one additional course has been added, with a special extended registration deadline of June 1: "Jesus and Paul on Poverty and Economic Justice," taught by Associate Professor of New Testament Diana Swancutt during the first week of Summer Study, June 11-15.
The registration deadline for the new course is June 1, while Thursday, May 24, is the deadline for other courses. Registration information on Swancutt’s course is available from Joanne Van Vlack at joanne.vanvlack@yale.edu, 203-432-6550. For other courses, registration can be completed online.
Swancutt’s course is a condensed version of the semester-long class she has taught at Yale Divinity School and will grapple with many of the issues raised at a recent lecture delivered at YDS by health care activist Dr. Paul Farmer. His visit grew out of the class, and the summer course can be seen as an extension of the conversation on faith and poverty begun at that lecture.
A variety of courses are being offered at YDS during Summer Study 2012 over two five-day periods in morning (9-11:30 am) and afternoon (1:30-4:00 pm) sessions. Courses, which do not carry academic credit but are frequently used for continuing education credit, are consolidated under distinct weekly themes: "Bible Study and Interpretation Week," June 11-15, and "Tools and Timely Topics Week," June 18-22.
All courses are open except for a few that are already filled -- "Summer Symposium: Religion and Environmental Stewardship”; “The Book of Revelation,” taught by Dean Harold Attridge; and “Writing Workshop,” taught by Reflections editor Ray Waddle
