THE BEGINNINGS: From 1630 to 1640 a town named Boston Lincolnshire England, located about 120 miles from London, sent ten percent of its Puritan religious population here and BOSTON,MASSACHUSETTS was born. Later, unwilling Blacks arrived in Boston in 1638 aboard a slave ship named "Desire." Approximately 138,000 African-Americans are resident Bostonians.
