SANKOFA54: The African Youth Empowerment

The Yale Undergraduate Association for African Peace and Development is  excited to welcome you to our inaugural conference – Sankofa54: The African Youth Empowerment Conference. Drawing from the Akan proverb: Sankofa, which teaches us that in order to shape our future we must first explore our past and shared histories, the Yale Undergraduate Association for African Peace and Development (YAAPD) seeks to embody the spirit of Sankofa by creating a forum for the leaders of today and the visionaries of tomorrow. The conference will draw together Africa’s top leaders, thinkers, innovators, policy analysts and visionaries to discuss and explore the challenges and opportunities to fully realize the African Renaissance.
The ability for youth to occupy decision-making positions in economic and social development is becoming not only an increasing reality in the 21^st century but also a necessity. The conference thus focuses on the opportunities and avenues for the youth to bring about transformational change in the fields of economics, peace and conflict resolution, education policy and the health sector. In our belief that the empowerment of the youth is pivotal to the long-term development of the African Continent, the conference will feature young Africans who are trailblazers in their own right and through a competitive process provide a grant for innovators.  We hope that you will attend this conference and discuss these issues among others under the theme: Developing Africa through Transformational Leadership.
