Peter Norton Symphony Space
2537 Broadway @ 95th Street

Evening shows:
A daring response to the taboo of women playing djembe in West Africa, NIMBAYA! is the first all women’s percussion and dance troupe from Guinea. The group, formerly known as Amazones Women Master Drummers of Guinea, was created in 1998 by Mamoudou Condé of Les Ballets Africains fame. Presenting spectacular performances, NIMBAYA! “play(s) with a fury, pounding out heart-racing rhythms and dancing into near frenzies” (Boston Globe). These concerts, which mark NIMBAYA!’s first New York appearances, feature a new work celebrating women’s empowerment in Africa today.

Family show:
NIMBAYA!’s combination of drumming and high energy dance is a perfect opportunity to introduce children to the joy of live world music. The show has been a major draw at several international festivals including the renowned children’s festivals in Seattle and Edmonton, Canada.
