HIGH SCHOOL ARTWORK, ESSAY, POEM OR SONG COMPETITION


THEME:

Throughout the historic struggle for African American freedom, resistance to oppression has been ongoing. Grass roots organizing and the tireless efforts of President Obama continue to combat racism, poverty and social injustices. Today's youth movement is joining the struggle.

Express in artwork, essay, poem or song:
What is your vision for the future? How can being involved in the struggle for freedom and equality bring positive change to your life and the larger community?

REQUIREMENTS: + Art work - Paper size not larger than 12" x 18"
+ Essay, poem or song - Not longer than 2 pages

DEADLINE: Entries must be received by 5 pm on Friday, February 17, 2012

GIFT CERTIFICATES  and recognition prizes will be awarded on Sunday, February 26, 2012 at 4:00 pm at the New Haven Peoples Center, 37 Howe Street during the 38th Annual African American History Month Celebration sponsored by the People's World. All entries will be recognized.

(If requested, entries will be returned on February 26)
This competition is sponsored annually by the People's World in Connecticut to remember the lives and work of Dalzenia Henry and Virginia Henry who devoted themselves to the young people of New Haven and to making a better future
